You know his heart, his humor, and his loyalty. You know how deeply he loves his wife, Stephanie, and their 8-year-old son, Eli. You know how excited he was to begin his dream job with the Chicago Cubs and start this next chapter of life with his family.
At 37 years old, Andrew was healthy, active, and full of plans for the future.
Then everything changed.
Less than a year ago, Andrew began experiencing weakness in his right hand. What seemed minor at first led to months of testing, appointments, and uncertainty before he received the diagnosis no one is ever prepared to hear: ALS.
ALS is now taking the strength that has always defined him. The hands that once held Eli are no longer working as they once did. Faced with this unimaginable diagnosis, Andrew and his family have chosen to fight back, pursuing every possible avenue to slow the progression of this devastating disease.
That determination led Andrew and his family to Dr. Amir Dori at Sheba Medical Center, where groundbreaking ALS research is focused on protecting the nerve connections destroyed by this disease. Dr. Dori’s work on miR-126 has shown promising potential, and his team is now advancing this research toward the next critical phase: preclinical studies needed to determine whether this approach can safely and effectively move closer to human trials.
These studies will help answer essential questions about how to deliver the therapy to the areas affected by ALS, ensure its safety, and confirm its ability to preserve motor neuron function and connectivity. This critical step is what can transform a promising scientific discovery into a potential treatment for patients.
Because today, there is still no treatment that can stop ALS. That is why this research matters.
If successful, Dr. Dori’s work could mean more time for Andrew to be the father Eli still needs, the husband Stephanie still has, and the son and brother who gets to keep showing up.
